We have owned this trash can for a couple of years and I can say without hesitation that it is one of the best purchases we have ever made. I had gotten so tired of having the trash bags get stuck in our old cylindrical can and/or get ripped on the way out. Or, worse, have the bag fall down into the can because there was no way to firmly secure the bag and then get stuck cleaning out a nasty mess of goo. This trash can takes care of all these problems for us, and it looks sleek in our kitchen, too, which is a huge plus. It says it is an outdoor can, but we use it in our kitchen anyway. The seal for the inner lid keeps odors out of the kitchen entirely -- a huge plus for me and my sensitive nose. The "secure lock" outer lid is really genius once you figure out how to unlock it (the problem the prior reviewer had): there are thick rubber straps that secure the lid that simply have to be lifted up from the handles in order to lift the whole lid;they are located on either side of the trash can, on the outer edges, looped over the plastic handles that stick out to be able to lift the can. You just pull up and over the rubber gasket-type material fasteners from those handles, and then the whole upper lid unit comes off and you can easily pull out your trash bag (no more evil suction problems, the shape of this can makes it very easy to pull out the bag without strain) and then replace it with an empty bag, put the lid back on and re-lock it into place by stretching the rubber-gasket fasteners back over the handles. Because it locks the bag in place, we never have leaks into the can any longer. I cannot say enough good things about this trash can. If ours ever wears out, I will definitely buy another one. Several of our family and friends have purchased them as well, after seeing ours and they all love it. I wish I could say more, but this is one product which was worth every penny and then some -- my husband laughed at the purchase price when I bought it, but he isn't laughing now: he loves it, too, because we haven't had a trash mess or smell to deal with since we bought it. Well worth ordering. Will replace ours with another if we ever need to do so, but the construction of this can is so sturdy, I can't imagine we will.

We have an enterprising dog that can get into any trashcan around. This can seemed sturdy, with a tight fitting locking lid and even though it's large for the avg kitchen (16 gallons!), we decided to try it. We (2 reasonably intelligent, handy people) could not get the lid to open. It "snaps in place tightly" - they got that right! Maybe there is a trick to it- nope- no instructions, no unlocking mechanisms- it is impossible to get the larger lid to open and the smaller inner lid is locked inside and cannot be accessed without opening the larger lid. Im not going to fight with this can everyday. So, unless you know something we dont or have masochistic tendencies- find a better trash can (atleast a functiong one!)
